Israel:Iran nukes by 2010

Posted by Picasa United States,European and Israeli intelligence chiefs agree that Iran is likely to have a nuclear bomb by 2010 or 2011unless the world disrupts its efforts, the recently retired Director of Military Intelligence,Maj.Gen Aharon Ze`evi Farkash, said this week.
Farkash headed the Military Intelligence in the last four years. It`s Israel`s biggest intelligence branch and until early January he was responsible for presenting the Cabinet with the national assessment.
Thursday he appeared before foreign diplomats and correspondents in a briefing organized by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.Iran should be stopped now, before it develops the capability to produce the bomb,he stressed. In discussions "With friends in Europe and in the States ...all of us....have reached "basic understandings "about the Iranian nuclear threat,Farkash noted.
They all agree Iran needs six months to a year to complete it`s research and development in order to enrich uranium. It has already decided to run a cascade with 164 centrifuges and learn the lessons from this process. Thus, from the beginning of 2007,it would be able to enrich uranium to build the bomb,he said.
Then,if uninterrupted ,it would need about a year to build a site wih 2,000 to 4,000 centrifuges in order to produce sufficient fissile material to build the first bomb "approximately" in 2010 or 2011" he added.
The arguments among the intelligence organizations were over the other possibility if sanctions and other disruptive measures are imposed, when might Iran have the opportunity, the capability,to build the first bomb?
"There are various dates 2010,2011,2015 etc," he said.
"In my point of view the most important step is now, achieving independent nuclear military capability to develop a nuclear bomb,"he stressed.
The most immediate threat would be directed at Israel.Iran has said openly it would like to wipe Israel off the face of earth. But not only Israel is in danger.Iran`s surface to surafce Shihab 3 miswiles with a range of 1,300 to 1,400 kilometres, are designed to threaten Saudi Arabia too.
"We have had hard evidence about maneuvres in the brigades that deal with the surface to surafxce missiles that part of them are against Saudi Arabia," Farkash reported.

Mothers pay the ultimate price!

Even with a troop reduction,US military appears headed for a long stay in Iraq.
All signs point to a major drawdown of U.S. troops in Iraq in 2006,perhaps to fewer than 100,000 by year`s end.But it is far from certain when there will be further reductions,or a total pullout, after that.In fact ,it now looks as if the United States may have a long-term and substantial military presence in Iraq military experts say.
Generals have been reluctant to set specific public timetables, but Gen George W.Casey Jr,the top U.S. Commander, noted this week that insurgencies in the 20th century lasted on average nine years. The Iraq war is coming up on a year three."Because of the nature of counterinsurgency,it`s often hard for people to define what victory is,"Casey said."It`s not D-day.There is not a not a big battle and it`s allover. It`s about people making choices so it evolves overtime. And that`s exactly what you see here."
The number of American troops here now is 136,000 down from a December high of 160,000,whose ranks were bolstered to protect against attacks during the Dec,15 voting.
Casey is expected to reccomend more cuts this spring. There is speculation that by the end of this year, fewer then 100,000 U.S.troops will be in Iraq. Posted by Picasa

Iraq was a blunder...

President Bush got away with his lies, but Iraq is no picnic where 4-5 american soldiers die on a daily basis.Road bombs, mortar attacks, suicide bombers have all taken a toll and coalition countries are pulling out no matter what.Iraq is on the brink of a civil war with kurds aiming to establish their state, sunnis fighting it out with shiites over control.Several other issues have aroused as well, Hamas winning the elections and Iran nuclear programme.Iran is not budging and the european troika is taking it to the security council, while syrian demonstrated and burned nordic embassies in damascus over the publishing of satirical caricatures of mohammed.Secretary of defense donald rumsfeld said yesterday that weapons of mass destruction could still be found in the country. Now they are asking the democrats to apologize to the president and the american people for carping against the president, when the president was indeed correct.
